For a number of years now an effort has been underway to save Teufelsberg from development. Currently a number of tourist companies in Berlin offer tours of the dilapidated facility and young party goers often hold rave-type events, complete with artificial lighting and entrance fees.
The facility was one of the most secretive Cold War locations in Berlin and off limits to residents for decades. Yet its unique white towers rising above the tree line intrigued and fascinated generations of youngsters growing up in Berlin.
Those interested in preserving it as a significant site in the Cold War would like it developed into a Cold War museum, perhaps with a café on top. But supposedly and developer already owns the site and is reported to use – as much as possible – the existing structure to create an event center, perhaps a museum and commercial shops. Personally, I would like to see an adventure land, but then that’s just my sick sense of humor.
